About appliance service in Woodland Hills
Woodland Hills holds Los Angeles County's official all-time heat record: the National Weather Service measured 121°F at the Pierce College station on September 6, 2020. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for that station average about 115 days a year at 90°F or hotter and about 36 days at 100°F or hotter. The neighborhood also has two very different housing types. ZIP 91364, which takes in the hills south of Ventura Boulevard, is mostly single-family houses with a median build year of 1967 (ACS 2020–2024). ZIP 91367, home to Warner Center, has half of its homes in buildings of ten or more units.
Refrigerators where LA County set its heat record
When Woodland Hills hit 121°F in September 2020, it set the official all-time high for Los Angeles County. Ordinary summers are hot too: the Pierce College station’s normal high is 95.1°F in July and 97.4°F in August.
Heat is hard on refrigerators and freezers. The sealed system has to push heat out through the condenser, and in a hot kitchen or garage there is less temperature difference to work with. Parts that were borderline in spring — a condenser fan, an evaporator fan, a start relay — tend to fail in August.
What you can do before calling:
- Clean the condenser coil. Our step-by-step condenser coil cleaning guide shows how on most models.
- Give the refrigerator air. Built-in trim, a crowded garage corner or a cabinet panel can trap heat.
- Listen for the fans. If the compressor runs but the fresh-food side warms up, an evaporator fan or a frozen coil is a likely cause. Our refrigerator not cooling guide walks through the signs.
Repair example: Whirlpool evaporator fan
From Epic Star’s repair records: a Whirlpool that lost cooling, the kind of failure that heat puts to the test. Both Whirlpool photos on this page show that single repair, and neither is presented as a Woodland Hills home.
The Whirlpool had stopped cooling. The evaporator fan motor would run briefly when it was moved by hand, then stop. The technician defrosted the evaporator coil and replaced the fan assembly, its connector and the temperature sensor. Cooling resumed after the repair.
A fan that only spins when nudged points to a failing motor. The temperature sensor was not a separate fault: the replacement fan motor for that refrigerator comes as one assembly with its connector and the sensor. The full write-up, with both photos explained, is our case study on the Whirlpool that stopped cooling.
A Lennox furnace in Woodland Hills
Several companies had already been out to this Lennox furnace in Woodland Hills without finding the fault. With a variable-speed blower motor, it’s hard to tell whether the motor or the control board is to blame, and both parts are expensive. We used a tester that runs the motor on its own, apart from the board. It showed the motor was bad, which meant the board was fine. After we replaced the blower motor, the system worked normally. The photo of that test is in our Lennox furnace case study.
Hillside houses and Warner Center apartments
Woodland Hills runs from the Valley floor up into the Santa Monica Mountains. The hills south of Ventura Boulevard were the site of the 1920s town of Girard, and today ZIP 91364 is about three-quarters detached houses, most of them owner-occupied, with a median build year of 1967. Expect original kitchens next to remodeled ones, long driveways, and refrigerators or freezers parked in hot garages.
Warner Center is different. The former Warner ranch land was turned into an office and residential center in the 1970s, and in ZIP 91367 half of all homes are in buildings with ten or more units. More of those homes heat with electricity, and apartment laundry may be stacked or compact. When you book, give us the unit number, parking instructions and any building rules for contractors.
Ice makers, dishwashers and Valley water
LADWP lists both Woodland Hills and Warner Center among its San Fernando Valley water communities. Valley water is a blend of Los Angeles Aqueduct water, local groundwater and MWD State Water Project water. LADWP’s 2025 report gives average total hardness of about 103 to 140 mg/L for its three Valley source plants; it does not say which plant serves which street. Over time those minerals scale ice makers and dishwashers. If ice production has slowed or cubes come out small, tell us when you call.
Air conditioning and fire season
We also offer AC tune-ups and mini-split service. Parts of Woodland Hills fall in the City of Los Angeles Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. After a smoky week, change the filter and keep the outdoor coil clear of ash and leaves. Business owners can request commercial appliance repair for refrigeration and kitchen equipment.
What a visit costs
The $85 diagnostic visit covers finding the fault and quoting the repair. Approve the repair and the $85 is credited toward it. Labor is warranted for 30 days and installed parts for 90 days. We confirm the appointment time by phone at (213) 205-2055.
Neighboring areas we serve include Tarzana, Winnetka and Chatsworth.

Frequently asked questions
-
Why does my refrigerator stop keeping up during Woodland Hills heat waves?
A refrigerator moves heat from inside the cabinet into the room through its condenser. When the kitchen or garage is very hot, the condenser has less room to shed heat, so a dirty coil, weak condenser fan or failing evaporator fan shows up first. Woodland Hills averages about 115 days a year at 90°F or more, so marginal parts get tested often.
-
My Whirlpool fridge is warm but the freezer still has some frost. What could it be?
One common cause is an evaporator fan that has stopped, so cold air never reaches the fresh-food side. A frozen-over evaporator coil can cause the same symptom. In one Epic Star repair, a Whirlpool's fan only ran briefly when moved; the coil was defrosted and the fan assembly, connector and temperature sensor were replaced, and cooling resumed.
-
Do you repair appliances in Warner Center apartments and condos?
Yes. Half of the homes in ZIP 91367 are in buildings with ten or more units, and we repair appliances in those apartments and condos. Tell us the unit number, parking or loading instructions, and whether building management needs a certificate of insurance or advance notice. If you rent, confirm with the owner who approves the quote.
-
Do you service refrigerators in garages and hillside homes south of Ventura Boulevard?
Yes. Garage refrigerators and freezers in Woodland Hills work hard in summer because the garage itself gets hot. For hillside homes, mention steep driveways, gates or long stairs when you book so the technician arrives with the right plan for access.
-
What does a refrigerator diagnostic cost in Woodland Hills?
The diagnostic visit is $85. The technician tells you what failed and quotes the repair before starting. If you approve, the $85 is credited toward the repair. Completed work has a 30-day labor warranty and a 90-day warranty on the parts we install. Call (213) 205-2055; we confirm scheduling by phone.
-
Do you also service air conditioning in Woodland Hills?
Yes, as a secondary service. We offer AC tune-ups and mini-split service. Woodland Hills sits partly in the city's Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, and smoke or ash during fire season loads filters and outdoor coils, so a pre-summer tune-up is worth considering.
