About appliance service in Granada Hills

Granada Hills is overwhelmingly a neighborhood of single-family houses. In ZIP 91344, Census estimates (ACS 2020–2024) show about 83% of homes are detached houses and roughly 73% are owner-occupied. The housing is older than in the neighboring Northridge, Chatsworth and Porter Ranch ZIP codes: the median home was built in 1963, and about 63% of homes date from 1950–1969. Around three-quarters heat with utility gas. If your kitchen or laundry room has been remodeled, it may still sit on the original water lines, gas connections and circuits.

Ice maker stopped, or is the whole refrigerator failing?

With a refrigerator problem, the first question is whether the problem is just the ice maker or the refrigerator itself. The answer changes the repair.

  • Ice maker only. The freezer holds temperature and food stays frozen, but ice is slow, small, hollow or missing. That points at the water supply, inlet valve, fill tube or the ice maker module. See ice maker repair.
  • Freezer warming too. Ice stops because the freezer is not cold enough. That points at airflow, defrost or the sealed system. See refrigerator repair.
  • Error code on the dispenser or display. Look it up first in our error code library, for example the Whirlpool ice maker E1 code.

Repair example: Whirlpool ice maker replaced, condenser cleaned

Here is an ice maker repair from Epic Star’s records. It illustrates the symptom only; this page does not claim the job was in Granada Hills.

The Whirlpool had stopped making ice, and its ice maker would not go into test mode. A new original Whirlpool ice maker was installed and worked right away; its first batch of ice came within about an hour or two. The condenser coils at the front and the rear of the refrigerator were also cleaned. Those were two separate tasks: the cleaning was routine maintenance and is not claimed as the cause or the fix for the ice maker. Our Whirlpool ice maker case study explains both.

Mid-century houses, original water lines

Granada Hills grew quickly after the war. Census estimates for ZIP 91344 show a median build year of 1963 and fewer than one home in ten built since 1990. That age shows up at the back of the refrigerator and under the sink:

  • Old supply valves that will not fully open or close, which starves an ice maker or a washer.
  • Plastic or copper ice maker lines that have been kinked during remodels.
  • Kitchens laid out for smaller appliances, so a modern French-door refrigerator is pushed tight against the wall and runs hot.

We work around these conditions, and we will tell you if a supply valve or line needs a plumber before an appliance repair makes sense.

Eichlers, horse properties and hillside lots

Not every Granada Hills home is a standard tract house. Balboa Highlands is a Joseph Eichler neighborhood built in 1962–1964, with atrium courtyards and floor-to-ceiling glass. The Granada Hills–Knollwood Community Plan update set out to protect undeveloped hillsides, equestrian uses and single-family areas, so some lots carry barns or outbuildings with extra refrigerators and freezers. Parts of Granada Hills also fall in the City of Los Angeles Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.

Water quality and your ice

LADWP lists Granada Hills among its San Fernando Valley communities. The supply is a blend of Los Angeles Aqueduct water, local groundwater and imported MWD State Water Project water. LADWP’s 2025 report lists average total hardness of about 103 to 140 mg/L at its three Valley source plants, with individual results from 78 to 151 mg/L.

In August 2025, a pump-station valve failure led LADWP to issue a boil-water notice for parts of ZIP codes 91344 and 91326. LADWP’s guidance was to make ice only with boiled water or another safe source and noted that most household filters do not remove bacteria. If a notice is ever issued again, switch off the ice maker and throw out ice made during the notice.

Laundry, ovens and water heaters

About three-quarters of Granada Hills homes heat with gas, so many homes have gas service and gas dryers, ranges and water heaters are likely. We repair washers, dryers, ovens and water heaters, and we can also look at dishwashers in the same household.

A mini-split cleaning in Granada Hills

On October 1, 2026, we cleaned a Daikin wall-mounted mini-split with two indoor heads here in Granada Hills. The customer had noticed a musty smell. With the front panel off, the mold was in the drain pan, and the black on the blower wheel was dried dust. We cleaned both heads in place with a cleaning bag, foaming coil cleaner and a sprayer rinse, and a Pan-Treat tablet went into the drain pan of the second head. The photos and the video are in the write-up of this musty Daikin in Granada Hills, and our mini-split cleaning page covers what a visit includes and the price per indoor unit.

Repair price and warranty

Diagnosis costs $85, and you get a repair quote before anything is replaced. If you approve the repair, the $85 is applied to it. The warranty is 30 days on labor and 90 days on installed parts. Call (213) 205-2055; we confirm the appointment by phone.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do you fix refrigerator ice makers in Granada Hills?

Yes. We repair built-in ice makers on Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, KitchenAid and other brands in Granada Hills. The technician checks the water supply, inlet valve, fill tube, ice maker module and freezer temperature before quoting, because a slow or stopped ice maker is not always a bad ice maker. In one Epic Star repair, a Whirlpool needed a new ice maker.

  • My freezer is cold but the ice maker stopped. Is the ice maker broken?

Possibly, but check the simple things first: the ice maker's on/off arm or switch, a kinked water line behind the refrigerator, a closed supply valve, and a frozen fill tube. If those look fine, the inlet valve, the module or the freezer's temperature can be at fault. Tell us any error code; our error code library covers several ice maker codes.

  • Does hard water affect ice makers in Granada Hills?

It can. LADWP serves Granada Hills with a blend of aqueduct water, local groundwater and imported State Water Project water, and its three Valley source plants averaged about 103 to 140 mg/L of hardness in 2025. Minerals collect in inlet valve screens and fill tubes over time, which can slow ice production. LADWP notes the water is safe to drink without softening.

  • What should I do with my ice maker during a boil-water notice?

Follow LADWP's instructions for the notice. In the August 2025 notice for parts of ZIP codes 91344 and 91326, LADWP said ice should be made with boiled water or another safe source and that most household filters do not remove bacteria. We suggest switching the ice maker off and discarding ice made during the notice.

  • Do you work on Eichler homes in Balboa Highlands?

Yes. Balboa Highlands is a Joseph Eichler tract built in 1962–1964, known for atrium courtyards and floor-to-ceiling glass. We repair the appliances in those homes like any other. Let us know if the kitchen has been restored with period-style built-ins, so we can plan access around the cabinetry.

  • How much is an appliance repair visit in Granada Hills?

It is $85 for the diagnostic visit. You hear the diagnosis and the repair price before any work begins. If you go ahead, the $85 counts toward the repair. Completed repairs carry 30 days on labor and 90 days on the parts we install. Call (213) 205-2055 to arrange a visit.

  • Do you clean mini-splits in Granada Hills?

Yes. Mini-split cleaning typically runs $150–$450 per indoor unit, depending on its size and condition, and additional units on the same visit are discounted. The $85 service call is credited toward the cleaning if you go ahead, and the cleaning carries a 30-day labor warranty. We clean wall-mounted heads and, with enough ceiling access, concealed ducted units; we don't clean ceiling cassettes. In October 2026 we cleaned both indoor heads of a Daikin wall-mounted system here. Call (213) 205-2055.
