About appliance service in Sun Valley

Sun Valley's housing is mostly mid-century. Census estimates for ZIP 91352 (ACS 2020–2024) give a median build year of 1961, and about 77% of homes were built before 1980. Roughly 61% are detached houses, half are owner-occupied, and about two-thirds heat with gas. Los Angeles County Public Works describes the Sun Valley watershed as one of the few areas in the county still prone to flooding because it has no major storm drain system, and its watershed materials list active gravel mines, landfills and industrial land uses. Heat is the other constant: on September 6, 2020, the nearby Burbank Airport station reached 114°F, tying its all-time record.

Kitchen and laundry repairs come first

In Sun Valley, as everywhere we work, household appliances are the core of the service. We repair refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens and ranges, and garbage disposals.

With a median build year of 1961 in ZIP 91352 and about two-thirds of homes heated with gas, many homes have gas service, so gas dryers and ranges are likely. Tell us where the appliance sits — kitchen, garage or service porch — and whether it is gas or electric, so the technician arrives prepared.

After a storm: flooded garages and laundry rooms

Los Angeles County Public Works describes the Sun Valley watershed as prone to flooding because it has no major storm drain system. Washers, dryers, freezers and water heaters sitting on a garage floor are exposed first.

If water has reached an appliance:

  1. Do not switch it on to test it. Turn off its circuit at the panel if you can reach it safely.
  2. For gas appliances, do not relight anything that sat in water. If you smell gas, leave right away and call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200, or 911, from outside.
  3. Let it dry and book an inspection. Motors, control boards and wiring connectors can be damaged even when the outside looks fine.

We will tell you what was affected and whether a repair is worth it compared with replacement; our repair or replace guide explains how we think about that decision.

Dust and refrigerator condenser coils

The county’s watershed materials describe the area with active gravel mines, landfills and industrial land uses. In a dusty setting, refrigerator and freezer condenser coils clog faster, and a clogged coil makes the compressor run longer. Clean the coil at least twice a year, more often for garage units. Our condenser coil cleaning guide shows how.

Water hardness on the Valley supply

LADWP lists Sun Valley among its San Fernando Valley communities, served by a blend of Los Angeles Aqueduct water, local groundwater and imported State Water Project water. In 2025, LADWP’s three Valley source plants averaged about 103 to 140 mg/L of total hardness. Scale shows up as white film on dishes and slow-filling washers and ice makers.

Cooling: AC tune-ups and window AC replacement

The Burbank Airport weather station, next to Sun Valley, tied its all-time high of 114°F on September 6, 2020. For cooling, we offer AC tune-ups, mini-split service and window AC replacement and installation. We do not repair window, through-wall or PTAC units.

A window AC in Sun Valley

A window unit here in Sun Valley was frosting over on its copper tubes while the blower ran and everything else worked. That points to low refrigerant or a restriction somewhere in the system. We don’t repair window units, so the customer decided to replace the whole unit. Our write-up of the frosted window AC explains what that frost means.

A cooling example from our records

It comes from Epic Star’s records and illustrates electrical safety on cooling equipment; it is not claimed as a Sun Valley job.

  • York condenser, burned contactor. The outdoor unit kept running and would not turn off: the contactor’s contacts had welded together. The contactor was replaced, and the unit now shuts off when it should. Our York contactor case study shows the burn marks and explains what a contactor does.

That doesn’t mean every condenser that keeps running has the same cause. Never open a condenser’s electrical cover; it carries real shock and fire risk.

Businesses can request commercial appliance repair for refrigeration and kitchen equipment.

Cost and warranty

You pay $85 for the diagnostic visit, and that amount is credited toward the repair if you approve it. Labor is warranted for 30 days and installed parts for 90 days. Call (213) 205-2055 and we will confirm a time.

Nearby, we also serve Burbank, North Hollywood and the City of San Fernando.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do you repair refrigerators and washers in Sun Valley?

Yes. Household appliances are our main work in Sun Valley: refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, ovens and garbage disposals. Call with the brand, the model number from the label and the symptom. If the appliance shows an error code, tell us the code; it helps the technician bring the right parts.

  • My garage flooded in a Sun Valley storm. Can I still use my washer and dryer?

Do not run an appliance that has stood in water until it has been checked. Water can reach motors, control boards and wiring that look dry from the outside. Switch off the circuit if it is safe to reach, let the area dry, and book an inspection. We will tell you which parts were affected and whether repair makes sense.

  • Why does my refrigerator run constantly in summer?

In hot weather a refrigerator works harder to push heat out, and a dusty condenser coil or weak condenser fan makes that worse. Sun Valley sits next to Burbank, where the airport station hit 114°F in September 2020. Clean the coil, give the refrigerator room to breathe, and call if the fresh-food side warms above about 40°F.

  • Do you repair window air conditioners?

No. We do not repair window, through-wall or PTAC units. We do replace and install window air conditioners, and we service central and mini-split systems with AC tune-ups. If a window unit trips its plug protection or smells burnt, stop using it and do not bypass the protection device.

  • My outdoor AC unit hums but the fan does not start. What should I do?

Turn the system off at the thermostat and do not open the electrical panel on the unit. A humming condenser with a stopped fan or compressor can point to a failed capacitor, a burned contactor or a motor problem, and those parts carry high voltage. Book an AC visit so a technician can test them safely.

  • What does a repair visit cost in Sun Valley?

The diagnostic visit is $85. The technician explains the problem and prices the repair before starting work. If you approve the repair, the $85 is credited toward it. Completed repairs carry a 30-day labor warranty and a 90-day warranty on installed parts. Call (213) 205-2055 to set it up.
