GE E3 — Spin Speed Error
What does GE E3 mean?
The washer's tachometer (speed sensor on the motor) reported that the drum did not reach or maintain the programmed spin speed. The control board shuts down the spin cycle as a safety measure.
What causes GE E3?
- Severely unbalanced load causing the control to abort spin
- Worn carbon motor brushes (on older models with brush motors)
- Failed motor control board
- Door latch not fully engaging (safety interlock prevents spin)
How to fix GE E3 yourself
- Open and redistribute the laundry, then restart the cycle.
- Check that the door clicks firmly closed before starting.
- Try running a different wash program — if spin works on a different setting, the issue may be with that specific program's speed target.
