About appliance service in Redondo Beach

Redondo Beach is a South Bay beach city, and its housing is a real mix of types. Census estimates for the city (ACS 2020–2024) show about 40% of homes are detached houses, 13% are attached townhome-style units and a quarter are in buildings of ten or more units; just over half are owner-occupied. The median home was built in 1973, and about two-thirds of homes heat with utility gas. Water comes from California Water Service's Hermosa-Redondo system, which blends treated local groundwater with imported Metropolitan Water District water.

ZIP codes: 90277, 90278.

Condos, townhomes and houses — what changes for the repair

Redondo Beach has a little of everything: detached houses, attached townhome-style units, small two- to four-unit buildings, and larger condo and apartment complexes. The building type changes how a repair goes.

  • Condos and apartments. Laundry may be a stacked or compact pair in a closet. Refrigerators may be counter-depth to fit a smaller kitchen. Parking, loading and HOA rules matter. If you rent, confirm who approves the quote.
  • Townhomes. Laundry may be upstairs or in the garage. A leak upstairs can reach the ceiling below, so close the supply valves first.
  • Houses. A garage may hold a second refrigerator or freezer, a water heater and the laundry pair, and many of these appliances run on gas.

We repair refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, ranges and water heaters in all three.

Salt air, fog and condenser coils

Coastal air carries salt and moisture, and both are hard on exposed metal. NOAA notes that the West Coast marine layer — the familiar “May Gray” and “June Gloom” — can persist for days or weeks. Practical maintenance for a beach-city home:

  1. Rinse the outdoor AC coil gently with a hose a few times a year, and keep plants and debris back from it.
  2. Clean the refrigerator’s condenser coil. Our coil cleaning guide shows the steps for most models.
  3. Look at hinges, screws and door gaskets. Corroded hinges and stiff gaskets let warm, damp air into refrigerators and freezers.

During any visit, ask the technician to check for corrosion on the parts they can see.

Hard water from a blended supply

Redondo Beach is served by California Water Service’s Hermosa-Redondo system, which also serves Hermosa Beach and part of Torrance. Cal Water blends local groundwater — treated to reduce dissolved solids from seawater intrusion — with imported Metropolitan Water District water. In the 2025 report, groundwater hardness averaged about 502 ppm and the imported water ranged roughly from 189 to 280 ppm. Cal Water describes water at 300 ppm or more as very hard. Because the share of each source in your tap is not published, we do not quote a single tap number, but scale is a real factor for:

  • Dishwashers: white film, clogged spray arms, scaled heaters. See dishwasher not cleaning dishes.
  • Water heaters: sediment, rumbling and slow recovery.
  • Ice makers and washer inlet valves: clogged screens and slow fill.

Heating and cooling near the coast

About two-thirds of Redondo Beach homes heat with gas, and about 42% of the city’s homes were built in the 1960s and 1970s; if your furnace is original to the house, mention its age when you book. We service furnaces and offer AC tune-ups and mini-split service. Gas-line modifications are referred to a licensed plumber.

A Carrier condenser eaten by salt air

On a job here in Redondo Beach we opened a Carrier side-discharge condenser that the ocean air had corroded all over. The coil was in terrible shape, the fan motor had rusted, and the fan blade had fallen apart inside the cabinet. Damage like that leaves no part worth swapping. Replacement is the only path, and since the unit wasn’t new, that meant replacing the whole system. The photos are in our salt-air corrosion case study.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do you repair stacked washer-dryers in Redondo Beach condos?

Yes. We repair stacked, compact and full-size washers and dryers in Redondo Beach condos, townhomes and houses. Stacked units sit in tight closets, so tell us the brand, model number and whether the closet has room to pull the unit forward. For a condo, also mention parking, building access and any HOA rules for contractors.

  • Does salt air affect refrigerators and AC units near the beach?

It can. Salt and moisture corrode exposed metal, including condenser coils, fan motors, hinges and fasteners. Coastal fog adds moisture; NOAA notes the West Coast marine layer can persist for days or weeks. Keep outdoor AC coils rinsed and clear, clean refrigerator condenser coils regularly, and ask us to look for corrosion during any service visit.

  • Is Redondo Beach water hard on dishwashers and water heaters?

It is mineral-heavy. Cal Water's Hermosa-Redondo system blends local groundwater, treated for dissolved solids from seawater intrusion, with imported water. Its 2025 report lists groundwater hardness around 500 ppm and imported water roughly 190 to 280 ppm; Cal Water calls 300 ppm or more very hard. Tap water is a blend, so expect scale in dishwashers, water heaters and ice makers.

  • Do you service furnaces and heating in Redondo Beach?

Yes, alongside appliances. About two-thirds of Redondo Beach homes heat with gas. We service furnaces and offer AC tune-ups and mini-split service. In neighboring Hermosa Beach, one of our documented jobs was a furnace blower motor replacement with full maintenance. Gas-line work itself is referred to a licensed plumber.

  • Do you cover Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Torrance too?

We have service-area pages for Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, which border Redondo Beach, and for nearby Hawthorne. We have also published repair case studies from neighboring Torrance. Call (213) 205-2055 with your address and appliance details and we will confirm the visit.

  • How much does an appliance repair visit cost in Redondo Beach?

The diagnostic visit is $85. The technician diagnoses the problem and quotes the repair before work begins, and the $85 is credited toward the repair if you approve it. Completed repairs carry a 30-day labor warranty and a 90-day parts warranty. We confirm scheduling by phone rather than promising an arrival time.
